Desktop Siege Warfare with Frickin’ Lasers

Not since sharks with frickin’ lasers attached to their heads has someone done something so cool with light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.  What’s totally awesome about this is they’re using such a modern technology to craft such an old-school weapon.

Speaking of old school – you can get one of these cool weapons for your classroom as well!

Pledge at the “Trebuchets for Schools!” reward level.

All of this extra money will be pooled and used to build trebuchets at $20 / each to give to science classrooms. We’re working with Marilyn Gardner at the American Association of Physics Teachers to find good homes for all of the kits we (and you!) donate.

Check it out, it’s for science!

Banana Chips & Bacon

It’s what my daughter wanted to have for supper.  Apparently she’s in good company (see the Elvis Granola bar):

In fact I found all sorts of tasty-yet-scary-looking treats while trying to find an image for this post. For example, Buttermilk Pancakes with Chocolate Chips and Bacon:

Or how about some Elvis Chocolate Bark:

A Google search did help me find this recipe, but I’m not brave enough to try it yet.

Love Me Tender Peanut Butter, Bacon & Banana Cookies

Now that’s cold

I’m sure that there is at least one science fiction story that was written after finding this out.

Hibernating ground squirrels may have abdominal temperatures as low as 0 °C, maintaining sub-zero abdominal temperatures for more than three weeks at a time, although the temperatures at the head and neck remain at 0 ˚C or above.
